MRTS03 Table 49.5 — acceptance (pull-out) testing

Up to 50 nails: 3 tests · 51–100 nails: 6 tests · Over 100 nails: 6%

Indicative only. Final test counts are confirmed against the project specification, lot breakdown and the Superintendent's hold points (MRTS03 acceptance testing is Hold Point 21).

Required acceptance tests

51 to 100 nails — minimum 6 pull-out tests

Suitability tests

Not specified

MRTS03 prescribes a single acceptance (pull-out) regime at 1.5 × working load. Any pre-construction sacrificial testing is set by the designer or Superintendent.

How it works

The testing rates explained

Both specifications require testing on a proportion of installed production nails, distributed across soil units, wall panels and installation crews rather than clustered in one lot.

01

Count the production nails

Take the total permanent nails or anchors in the lot as shown on the shoring design drawings.

02

Apply the specified rate

MRTS03 Table 49.5: 3 tests below 50 nails, 6 tests for 51–100, and 6% above 100. TfNSW TS 02168.1: a minimum 3% of working nails for acceptance, plus sacrificial suitability nails at the greater of 1% or two per ground type.

03

Distribute the tests

Spread tests across soil horizons, wall heights and shifts so the sample is representative of the whole lot.
